Nokia-6.1-Plus

Nokia 6.1 Plus: 5 Reasons Why the Latest Nokia Android One is the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Killer

Nokia has recently launched the global variant of the notched smartphone Nokia X6 in India as the Nokia 6.1 Plus. The price tag that comes along with the device makes it a mid-tier offering from the company and in direct competition with one of the most popular devices in that segment- the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. Let’s weigh in some factors to know why the Nokia 6.1 Plus is a better bet.

Nokia 6.1 Plus vs Redmi Note 5 Pro: Design, Display

The latest Android One smartphone from Nokia features premium exteriors with a notch display with an aspect ratio of 19:9 and glass on both front and back. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, on the other hand, features a metal unibody design with an 18:9 aspect ratio.

Nokia 6.1 Plus vs Redmi Note 5 Pro: Software

In terms of software, the Nokia 6.1 Plus is far ahead of the Xiaomi offering. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro boots Android 7.1 Nougat based MIUI 9 out of the box. While the Nokia 6.1 Plus is an Android One smartphone and brings stock Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. Being an Android One device, the Nokia 6.1 Plus will be getting the latest Android 9.0 Pie updates from Google.

Nokia 6.1 Plus vs Redmi Note 5 Pro: Optics

For imaging, both Redmi Note 5 Pro and the Nokia 6.1 Plus come equipped with the dual camera set up. The Nokia 6.1 Plus comes with a 16MP + 5MP setup which is accompanied by an LED flash to handle the shots in poor lighting conditions. In comparison, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary camera. The dual camera set up on the Redmi Note 5 Pro is accompanied by a dual-tone LED flash. And as for selfies and video calling, the Redmi Note 5 Pro features a 20MP camera and the Nokia 6.1 Plus sports a 16MP camera. Furthermore, the Nokia 6.1 Plus also packs AI-powered features including intelligent scene recognition, AI Portrait Mode, masks, filters, and more. The dual camera on the Nokia device also supports the HDR imaging technology, which is touted capture brighter and sharper images.

Nokia 6.1 Plus vs Redmi Note 5 Pro: Battery

The Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with a massive 4000mAh cell and the Nokia 6.1 Plus is fuelled by a 3060mAh battery. However, the Nokia handset comes with support for Quick Charge 3.0 and next-gen Type-C port for charging, giving it an edge over the Redmi Note 5 Pro which comes with Quick Charge 2.0.

Nokia 6.1 Plus vs Redmi Note 5 Pro: Performance

In terms of hardware, both the devices come equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 636 chipset paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB onboard storage. You can afford to work on multiple tabs without having to worry about the performances of the devices. The Nokia 6.1 Plus runs the advanced software and an impressive hardware, same as the Redmi Note 5 Pro. However, the Nokia handset is a better choice when it comes to the overall performance of the device.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is a popular handset choice, but the latest Nokia Android One smartphone offers some impressive features and upgraded specifications at the same price point.

Nokia 6.1 Plus: Other Specifications, Availability

Bose-Home-Speaker-500

Bose today revealed the "Bose Home Speaker 500," a new smart speaker that comes with Amazon Alexa built into the device and support for Bluetooth music streaming from iOS and Android smartphones. The Wi-Fi enabled speaker has many of the same features as competitor devices like HomePod and Sonos One, including music streaming, smart home automation, smart assistant inquiries, multi-room music syncing, and more.

In "early 2019," Bose says that it will introduce support for AirPlay 2 in the Bose Home Speaker 500, as well as in a pair of smart soundbars also announced today, the Bose Soundbar 500 and Bose Soundbar 700. For the Bose Home Speaker 500, the device includes an eight-microphone array for near-field and far-field voice pickup -- all when it's both silent and noisy from currently playing music.

For music playback, users will be able to play Spotify or Amazon Music directly from the Bose Home Speaker 500 when it's connected to a home Wi-Fi network. Buttons on the top of the speaker will also allow customers to set up to six different presets for playlists, Internet radio stations, and more. Of course, with Bluetooth any audio can also be streamed from a smartphone or tablet.

The company says the Home Speaker 500 has "the widest soundstage of any smart speaker available today," and is encased in an anodized aluminum shell that measures 8" high by 6" wide by 4" deep. Two custom drivers pointed in opposite directions ensure that sound reflects off surrounding walls to separate instruments and "place vocals where the artist did," all without "artificial effects or distortion."

“Voice-controlled speakers aren’t new, and there are plenty of great options to choose from. But we had a different vision for ours, inspired by what we could uniquely do to make the experience better,” said Doug Cunningham, category manager in the Bose Consumer Electronics Division.

“All of our new smart speakers double up on functionality. It takes just one Home Speaker 500 to deliver true stereo separation — there’s no need to pair two. Our Soundbar 700 and 500 are thin and discreet with jaw-dropping surround sound — whether you’re streaming Spotify or watching a movie. They combine Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for unbeatable ease of use, can be mixed and matched to play in sync or separately, and with new Alexa functionality and more VPAs on the way, they’ll only get better over time.”
Notably, Bose's smart speaker includes a front-facing display, but it doesn't appear to be a touchscreen. In the announcement, Bose says that, "when touch control is preferred ... there are buttons for basic functionality located right on the top," allowing users to skip track, adjust volume, and more. In the owner's guide, Bose says, "The speaker display shows speaker information and icons as well as the streaming service, album and artist currently playing."

To compare, the HomePod has a 6 microphone array that allows the speaker to hear spoken Siri commands even when loud music is playing. HomePod measures in at 6.8 inches tall and 5.6 inches wide, so Bose's option is also slightly larger. Compared to the Bose Home Speaker 500's aluminum, Apple went for a mesh fabric webbing around the HomePod, and it only has a small 272 x 340 LED display at the top to display Siri's waveform when commands are invoked.

The Bose Home Speaker 500 will launch in October for $399.95, which is about $50 more than HomePod's $349.99 retail price and $100 more than recent discounts for Apple's speaker. The Bose Soundbar 500 and 700 will cost $549.95 and $799.95, respectively, and also launch in October at Bose retail stores, Bose.com, and at authorized Bose dealers.

Honda will be launching their new CR-V by the 9th of October. This is the new gen model that is making a comeback to India and would be the flagship model from Honda in India. The new CR-V is bigger, more luxurious and more spacious plus have diesel and petrol engines unlike the previous gen which was petrol only. The new diesel engine is a 1.6 unit and will have a 9-speed automatic and AWD too. There will be a 2.0 petrol as well but with a different automatic gearbox and in FWD form. The new gen CR-V would be available as a 7-seater which increases its practicality too.

Along with new engines there is a much more luxurious cabin with richer materials and a sharper design. Of course it will be equipped with all the features you expect from a near Rs 30 lakh SUV. The new CR-V then competes with a wide range of SUVs like the Tucson, Tiguan or the Kodiaq but also competes with the highly popular Fortuner which is the best seller SUV- especially being a 7-seater now. Honda will price it well and is looking to get some numbers in this luxury SUV segment. We will be driving this SUV next month too so stay tuned for more.

Here's How You Can Still Make Money From Apple’s Supply Chain

Apple
(NASDAQ:AAPL) suppliers have been in a spot of bother as slowing iPhone sales have limited their growth prospects. Additionally, rumors that Cupertino is planning to manufacture 20% fewer iPhones this year have been hanging heavy on the likes of Cirrus Logic, Broadcom, Skyworks Solutions, and others who rely on Apple for a great deal of their revenue.

But there's one Apple supplier that's making solid progress despite any iPhone sales woes. Lumentum Holdings (NASDAQ:LITE) has been in the spotlight since late last year after it emerged that it is the sole supplier of 3D sensing chips for the iPhone X. The chipmaker's vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) arrays are used for facial recognition in the company's most expensive smartphone ever, and it is rumored that it could find its way lower into Apple's product lineup.
This is great news for Lumentum investors. Here's why.
Two iPhone X devices. One is facedown, the other is displaying a picture of a rose.
I

A new business

Apple is a relatively new account for Lumentum. In fact, the chipmaker doesn't even feature on Apple's official supplier list. But the Apple business has had a massive impact on the company's financial performance.
Lumentum's revenue during the first three quarters of the current fiscal year -- covering July 2017 through March 2018 -- shot up nearly 22% as compared to the same period last fiscal year. The majority of the growth arrived during the quarters spanning the October to March period, coinciding with the period when Apple was busy ramping iPhone production.
By comparison, Lumentum's revenue was actually down 6% year over year in the first quarter of the current fiscal year, which ended in September 2017. This was before the Apple catalyst kicked in, when the chipmaker was struggling in its core business thanks to weak demand for its telecom products in China. Lumentum reported full-year results on Aug. 8 and said that its industrial & consumer segment was up 848% over the prior year thanks to the launch of 3D sensing into mobile devices. That segment, which includes 3D sensing and diode lasers sold for industrial applications, made up about a quarter of total revenues in the just-finished fourth quarter.

All set to take off

Taiwanese company WIN Semiconductor is a contract manufacturer of Lumentum's chips. WIN recently stated that it expects its second-half revenue this year to be lower than its prior estimate and anticipates its revenue to rise "less than 100% year over year," which means that it could almost double its revenue.
This sounds like great news for Lumentum investors, but how is this possible at a time when Apple is reportedly going to slash output? It's because Cupertino is reportedly going to push facial recognition into more smartphones this year.
According to Forbes, smartphone accessories manufacturer Ghostek has found out from its supply chain sources that the Face ID feature will find its way into an iPhone this year that'll carry a lower price than the iPhone X. What's more, another Forbes article recently said that Apple is reportedly planning to deploy Face ID across the iOS universe, including the iPad.
Lumentum's management somewhat corroborated this possibility back in May. CEO Alan Lowe said he expects sales of 3D sensing chips to ramp up in the second half of the calendar year, as Lumentum customers are likely to deploy its solution in "more and more models and further down into their product line."
Moreover, Lumentum has been busy expanding VCSEL capacity. The company had pulled in $200 million in 3D sensing revenue during last year's December-ended quarter, and it exited that quarter with higher production capacity than it had at the beginning.
So it won't be surprising if Lumentum's Apple contract brings it bigger gains, which could be one of the reasons why its earnings are expected to grow at over 18% annually over the next fiv years.

Words of caution

Investors won't be paying through their noses to take advantage of Lumentum's success, but they need to keep a couple of things in mind. First, weak telecom demand from China has weighed on Lumentum's core business, and a turnaround might not be happening soon, because the country's government is planning to shore up domestic production of optical components.
And Apple has been smart to diversify its VCSEL supply chain with Finisar, so the possibility of Lumentum having to split the Apple business could be a headwind. Still, given that Lumentum trades at just 12 times forward earnings, it seems like a good bet for anyone looking to benefit from the proliferation of facial recognition technology in Apple's ecosystem, provided they are willing to stomach the risks

Apple Store seen growing to 600 locations worldwide by 2023

Gene Munster sees growth in China and India leading to a big future expansion, with Apple employing 80,000 customer service employees just at Apple Stores within five years.
Apple Store in Seoul

In a blog post for his firm Loup Ventures, longtime Apple analyst Gene Munster on Thursday tackled the Apple Store. In the post, the longtime Apple analyst argues that the Apple Store is an increasingly important part of Apple's future — and that after crossing the 500-store mark earlier this year, it will reach 600 by 2023.

In the blog post, titled Apple Retail's Mission: Embodied ValuesMunster writes that Apple's huge retail footprint gives it an "underappreciated competitive advantage," in that it's able to sell its own products in a much larger amount of stores than any of its competitors can.

After sharing some history about how the Apple Store grew and thrived as the rest of the retail industry collapsed, and how the in-store experience has evolved, from Ron Johnson's time in charge of the Apple Store division to the Angela Ahrendts era that began in 2014.

"Growth in new Apple stores will continue," Munster writes. "We expect Apple's store count to reach 600 locations in 2023, up from 511 today. The two biggest growth regions will be China (50 stores today) and India (likely announced within the next six months)." He went on to predict that Apple's retail employee count, currently at 65,000, will grow to 80,000 in five years.

Apple opened what was reportedly its 500th Apple Store in January, which was also its first in South Korea.

In the post, Munster also shares some "layers" of what he sees as important to the Apple Store's success. These include aesthetics, greeting and checkout, advice, support and inspiration. He went on to positively compare Apple's retail experience to that of other local retailers in Minneapolis.

Munster, long a much-followed Apple analyst with Piper Jaffray, started Loup Ventures in 2017. Recently, he's been looking a lot at the idea of "Apple as a Service," and how Apple's services business is going to become more important over time.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Android Pie has arrived only for Pixel devices
  • Pixel XL users report of fast charging issues after the update
  • Only Pixel XL users seem to be affected
Several Google Pixel XL users are now reporting of a fast charging issue after the arrival of Android 9 Pie stable update. Users complain that fast charging does not work on their Pixel XL after installing the update. One user even reported that a message that reads "Charging Slowly" shows up, even when the unit is plugged into a fast charger. Some report that the original fast charger bundled in with the Pixel XL works fine, but other chargers seem to not be supported anymore.
Google Pixel XL users have taken to the Google Tracking issue site to report this issue. Users complain that fast charging worked fine when the device was running on Android 8.1 Oreo, but ever since the Android 9 Pie software update arrived, this charging issue has surfaced. While some users can still fast charge their phones using the original charger that came bundled with the smartphone, others can't seem to make it work with any fast charger. This clearly seems to be a software issue, as it only seems to have arrived after the Android Pie update. Google is looking into it, and hopefully a fix should come soon. A user reported that a similar issue was reported during the DP4 release as well, but that was closed by Google as "Won't Fix (Infeasible)." This means that a fix for that was not possible, or the AOSP was not a proper place to report the problem. Whatever the case may be, the issue was not resolved in the beta days, and it has trickled into the stable version as well. Note that only Pixel XL users are facing this issue, and other Pixel family devices seem to be unaffected.
Android Pie stable update has currently been rolled out the Pixel devices only; however, third party devices should get it soon. HTC and Sony have already confirmed Android Pie rollout to a slew of devices. Vivo has also confirmed that Android Pie will be rolled out to its smartphones before the end of 2018.

Talking about the Nokia 3.1, despite the lower pricing the company hasn’t compromised with the built quality and has embedded the phone with diamond cut aluminium along with a layer of Corning Gorilla glass on the front. The entry-level smartphone by Nokia, the Nokia 2.1 also comes with metal accents which make the phone more durable besides lending it some aesthetical edge.

samsung-S10+

Next year Samsung will celebrate 10 years of Galaxy S flagships and wants to make the anniversary phone outstanding. Previous reports suggested the Galaxy S10+ will have a triple-cam setup, later followed by leak about two selfie cameras.
Today a report from South Korea revealed the full setup of the main S10+ camera - it will have a 16 MP regular snapper, 13 MP sensor with a telephoto lens, while the third cam will have a wide-angle lens and a 12 MP sensor behind it.
Samsung Galaxy S9+
South Korean agency ETNews reported that Samsung initially planned to equip only one version of the Galaxy S10 portfolio with the triple setup, but the plans changed and now two variants will receive three cameras.
Another device that might get a triple setup is the next iteration of the Galaxy A portfolio, presumably called Galaxy A9 (2019). If the company goes through with the plan of introducing the first midranger with such a camera combination, it will unveil the phone with 32 MP + 8 MP + 5 MP. The source does not reveal which sensor will have wide-angle or telephoto lens though.
Huawei P20 Pro with three cameras
Analysts predict more than 10% of manufactured smartphones will have three-cam setup in 2019, since LG and Samsung will join Huawei in the three-cam race. An increase in the amount of cameras will lead to increased production of sensors and improved business results for manufacturers like Samsung, MCNEX, CamSys, and others.
